Free talk with Peter Grunwald, recorded at November 18th, 2025
Spanish translation: Tali Kimelman
The Eyebody Method, created by Peter Grunwald and inspired by the Alexander Technique and the Bates Method, invites you to rediscover the connection between eye, brain, and body. Learn to let go of the habit of wearing glasses by using your visual system naturally and consciously, freeing yourself from the habits that limit your sight.
Discover the method that lets you understand the visual, emotional, mental and body patterns that cause dysfunctions such as myopia, presbyopia, cataracts, glaucoma, squints, astigmatism and more.
Stop depending on glasses: Corrective lenses can interfere with the eye’s natural accommodation. In this talk, you’ll discover ways to gradually reduce your dependence on them and strengthen your visual system.
Learn how to
• Look with less tension: integrate panoramic vision to reduce eye strain, especially when working at a computer.
• See in new ways: its not the eyes which see’s – its the brain. Activate new neural circuits that improve visual coordination.
• Restore fascial flexibility: explore body practices that directly influence visual clarity.

EYEBODY coordinates the brain and releases tensions in the eyes and the whole visual system, bringing clarity to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of seeing. Through the EYEBODY patterns the body is reached in an indirect way which can have a positive effect on many conditions, such as neck, back and joint problems, asthma and general fatigue, benefiting overall health and co-ordination. EYEBODY enhances clear thinking, integrates all the senses (particularly hearing) and supports more effective processing of information. Clear sight is only one aspect of vision. Perceiving the world in more depth and letting go of over- and under-focussing promotes a deep sense of well-being that permeates all aspects of life. Very often physical, mental, emotional and life challenges can be transformed, the roots of which may have seemed elusive
Having been a teacher of the Alexander Technique and the Bates Vision Improvement Method for some years, as well as letting go of his own -10.5 diopter glasses, Peter discovered the connections between the eyes and the body. These EYEBODY patterns describe how every part of the eyes, the visual pathway and the visual cortex is connected to a specific area of the body, in such way that particular visual symptoms correspond with specific tensions in the body.
Peter’s groundbreaking second book Eyebody – Soulful Seeing – Conscious Living, extends his earlier work covered in Eyebody – The Art of Integrating Eye, Brain and Body, to include the diversities of our emotional and spiritual nature. It introduces you to the art of integrating soul qualities through our eyes, brain and body to heal the emotional patterns and intergenerational aspects that can underlie our visual abnormalities, as well as our health and life challenges.
This unique experiential retreat with Peter Grunwald – for both beginners and advanced students – explores the integration of vision, eyesight, posture, movement, relaxation, imagination and brain function. The EYEBODY method is a principle-based educational process that can transform your way of seeing and being. Applying the principles can help you let go of the habit of wearing glasses and contact lenses. Participating in the retreat can be beneficial for people of all ages and offers a comprehensive learning experience.
Central to the method is the understanding that eyesight and vision are flexible, and that through the neuroplasticity of the brain itself – the brain, eyesight and body patterns can change. Many known visual symptoms and conditions, such as myopia (short-sightedness), hypermetropia (far-sightedness), presbyopia (middle-age vision), astigmatism, light sensitivity, crossed and lazy eyes, as well as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, detached retinas or vitreous humours and other vision disorders can benefit from the application of the EYEBODY method.
You will enjoy a daily schedule of teaching , meditation and practice sessions, with time for meals and short breaks and an extended break after lunch for rest and integration.
During this EYEBODY retreat you will
This retreat will support advanced students of the Eyebody method in renewing and deepening their practices. Students will be met by Peter at their current level of knowledge and experience, and individually guided throughout the week in their next steps to deepen their personal experience and application of the method.
Group and individual attention is given to support you in creatively learning the EYEBODY principles and assimilating them gradually. Sharing in the experiences of others can help you learn about yourself. Participants benefit most if they are ready to explore and question habits, let go of resistances and welcome change.

Each year a dedicated group of students join Peter Grunwald in Eyebody – The Extraordinary Art of Seeing, Thinking and Moving, an intensive personal study and practice held only in New Zealand.
The core of this work is the art to integrate your brain, eyes, body and soul by applying Peter’s unique discoveries and processes based on the Alexander and Bates Method principles to the process of seeing, thinking and moving.
Out of this has developed a unique process called the Grunwald EYEBODY Method which applies the Alexander principles of Inhibition and Direction, and principles of the Bates Method such as visualizing to the visual system and involves the use of eyes to enhance efficiency of body movements and increase in brain function.
During the course you get to know how to undo physical, emotional and mental tensions which underlie ‘visual dysfunctions and fatigue’ by applying a constructive means-whereby instead of end-gaining clarity with glasses or contact lenses.
The New Zealand Program will help you to:
Some of the work will lead into new frontier discoveries of the visual system and the brain. For some the course will help to uncover your personal embryology of the visual coordinating mechanism with functions affecting the neo-cortex, the limbic system and that of the reptilian brain.
New Zealand offers a tremendous range of activities and sights for participants and their families. Its mild climate in January makes it ideal for our purposes. This year, our location remains within New Zealand’s stunning coastal region in Coromandel. Peter invites all of you who are seriously committed to study deeply the outlined processes based on his published books on the EYEBODY method with him. A sense of humour, exploration and willingness to see, think and move are vital for participation.
It is highly recommended that you have experienced at least one 6-day retreat with Peter. In certain circumstances this can be waived with regular reviews of suitability during the course.
The first week (Friday 8th – Thursday 14th Jan) will be held at Mana Retreat Centre www.manaretreat.com located approximately 2 hours by car from central Auckland or the International Airport. It is a unique retreat centre with 120 hectares of farmland, forests, streams and a mountain. The retreat starts on 8 Jan 2027 at 5pm for dinner and finishes on 14 Jan after lunch (please note that accommodation is twin share with a limited number of single rooms available).
The second week (16 – 22 January) moves us close to the Coromandel township at the Eyebody studio in Wyuna Bay overlooking Long Bay beach. Accommodation is to be booked and paid personally. There are a number of AirBandB’s which are nearby in Wyuna Bay, close walking distance to the venue. We can help direct you to suitable accommodation options for individuals and also if you wish to house share.
A shuttle is provided to transport you on the 14th January from Mana to your chosen accommodation in Wyuna Bay/ Coromandel township.
Friday 15th is a personal day to relax in the local area or, if feeling more adventurous, explore the surrounding bush and beaches of Cathedral Cove or Hahei.
12 days of group tuition in this course. All fees are in NZ dollars. Early bird fee of NZ$2695 (non-refundable deposit included) to be received in full by 1 October 2026 or standard fee of NZ$3195. Please pay $495 non-refundable deposit to reserve a space. Rest balance to be paid not later than 1 December 2026. Cancellation fee applies.
A series of private lessons with Peter can be booked, con-currently, 22nd and 23rd January. These sessions are $150nz (approx75€) per 40-minute lesson – to be paid whilst in New Zealand. Note: additional sessions can also be booked with Peter’s supporting teachers during the second week.
First register with EYEBODY for payment of tuition fees. Afterwards you will receive a confirmation letter which includes information on how to book the Mana accommodation, and recommendations for your stay in Coromandel during the second week. Our experience tells us that often people are grouping together to find accommodation.
Mana Retreat Centre: A fee for 6 nights’ accommodation is payable online. This includes all meals and lodging in shared rooms, some with en-suite bathrooms.
Coromandel Wyuna Bay: There are various accommodation options in Coromandel in AirBnB’s and motels which requires you to book and pay separately. We will advise on and assist in booking on your behalf.
Unless you find a replacement the following applies: if withdrawing from participation before 1 December 2026 the tuition fee less non-refundable deposit of $300 will be refunded. If withdrawal occurs after 1 December 2026 no refund will be made, if you cancel, arrive late or leave early. All cancellations must be made in writing prior to the above dates.
