About the Retreat

This unique experiential retreat with Peter Grunwald – for both beginners and advanced students – explores the integration of vision, eyesight, posture, movement, relaxation, imagination and brain function. The EYEBODY method is a principle-based educational process that can transform your way of seeing and being. Applying the principles can help you let go of the habit of wearing glasses and contact lenses. It is beneficial for people of all ages and offers a comprehensive learning experience. Central to the method is the understanding that eyesight and vision are flexible and through the neuroplasticity of the brain itself – the brain, eye and body patterns can integrate. We will discover visual symptomatic patterns such as myopia (short-sightedness), hypermetropia (far-sightedness), presbyopia (middle-age vision), astigmatism, light sensitivity, crossed and lazy eyes, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and other visual patterns – and how to undo and change them.

During this EYEBODY retreat you will

  • understand the visual process and your unique brain tendency
  • learn to apply the EYEBODY principles to the process of seeing
  • understand how your visual habits may contribute to your loss of clear sight and learn effective techniques to release those patterns
  • take your first steps without glasses or contacts
  • learn how to integrate the EYEBODY method into activities of your daily life, such as walking, driving and computer work
  • build bridges between vision and spirituality
  • read and see without strain or fatigue
  • undo inter-generational emotional attachments affecting the brain, eyes and body
  • experience how EYEBODY may improve your posture, and also benefit your hearing

The retreat will also support ADVANCED students of the EYEBODY method to renew and deepen their practices. All participants will be met and guided at their individual level of knowledge and experience.

The Eyebody Method

EYEBODY coordinates the brain and releases tensions in the eyes and the whole visual system, bringing clarity to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of seeing. Through the EYEBODY patterns the body is reached in an indirect way through fascia and can have a positive effect on many conditions, such as neck, back and joint pain, asthma and general fatigue, benefiting overall health and co-ordination. EYEBODY enhances clear thinking, integrates all the senses (especially hearing) and supports more effective processing of information. Clear sight is only one aspect of vision. Perceiving the world in more depth and letting go of over- and under-focussing promotes a deep sense of well-being that permeates all aspects of life. Very often physical, mental and emotional difficulties can be transformed, the roots of which may have seemed elusive.

Group and individual attention is given to support you in creatively learning the EYEBODY principles and assimilating them gradually. Sharing in the experiences of others can help you learn about yourself. Participants benefit most if they are ready to explore and question habits, let go of resistances and welcome change.

Peter Grunwald

Peter trained in Sydney in the Alexander Technique from 1984 – 1987 followed by in-depth teachings by American Master AT teacher Majory Barstow. Peter himself was myopic with -10.5 diopters. He was able to apply the AT principles and engage with the Bates Method, and within 18 months he was free of his glasses. Afterwards he discovered the connections between the eyes and the body in the early 1990s. These EYEBODY patterns describe how every part of the eyes, the visual pathway and the visual cortex is connected to a specific area of the body. Particular visual symptoms correspond with specific tensions in the body.

Peter’s groundbreaking new book Eyebody – Soulful Seeing – Conscious Living, extends his earlier work covered in Eyebody – The Art of Integrating Eye, Brain and Body – and letting go of glasses forever, to include the diversities of our emotional and spiritual nature. It introduces you to the art of integrating soul qualities through our eyes, brain and body to heal the emotional patterns and intergenerational aspects that can underlie our visual abnormalities, as well as our health and life challenges.

Peter lives in New Zealand and teaches extensively around the world. We welcome Peter to his first trip to Uruguay.

About this course

Each year a dedicated group of students join Peter Grunwald in Eyebody – The Extraordinary Art of Seeing, Thinking and Moving, a three-week intensive personal study and practice held only in New Zealand.

The core of this work is the art to integrate your brain, eyes, body and soul by applying Peter’s unique discoveries and processes based on the Alexander and Bates Method principles to the process of seeing, thinking and moving.

Out of this has developed a unique process called the Grunwald EYEBODY Method which applies the Alexander principles of Inhibition and Direction, and principles of the Bates Method such as visualzing to the visual system and involves the use of eyes to enhance efficiency of body movements and increase in brain function.

During the course you get to know how to undo physical, emotional and mental tensions which underlie ‘visual dysfunctions and fatigue’ by applying a constructive means-whereby instead of end-gaining clarity with glasses or contact lenses.

The New Zealand Program will help you to:

  • Get a deeper understanding of the visual process
  • Learn about your unique visual brain tendency
  • Apply the practices of presence connected to consciousness
  • Discover and coordinate brain-eyes-body and soul patterns
  • Experience and apply envisaging and conscious depth perception
  • Integrate membranes of fascia in movement effecting brain, eye, body
  • Increase your kinaesthesia within the visual system
  • Undo inter-generational emotional attachments effecting the brain, eyes and body integration
  • Be guided ‘hands-on’ individually and in small groups
  • Applications and practices in daily activities

Some of the work will lead into new frontier discoveries of the visual system and the brain. For some the course will help to uncover your personal embryology of the visual coordinating mechanism with functions affecting the neo-cortex, the limbic system and that of the reptilian brain.

New Zealand offers a tremendous range of activities and sights for participants and their families. Its mild climate in January makes it ideal for our purposes. This year, our location remains within New Zealand’s stunning coastal region in Coromandel. Peter invites all of you who are seriously committed to study deeply the outlined processes based on his published books on the EYEBODY method with him. A sense of humour, exploration and willingness to see, think and move are vital for participation.

Pre-requisites

It is highly recommended that you have experienced at least one 6-day retreat with Peter. In certain circumstances this can be waived with regular reviews of suitability during the course.

Venues

The first venue is the Mana Retreat Centre (www.manaretreat.com) located approximately 2 hours by car from central Auckland or the International Airport. It is a unique retreat centre with 120 hectares of farmland, forests, streams and a mountain. The retreat starts on 4 Jan 2025 at 5pm for dinner and finishes on 10 Jan after lunch (please note that accommodation is twin share with a limited number of single rooms available)

The second week (10-17 January) moves us close to the Coromandel township at the Eyebody studio in Wyuna Bay overlooking Long Bay beach. Accommodation is to be booked and paid personally. There are a number of AirBandB’s which are nearby in Wyuna Bay, close walking distance to the venue. We can help direct you to suitable accommodation options for individuals and also if you wish to house share.
Once you have registered we will advise you on transport between locations.

Tuition fees

11 days of group tuition in this course. All fees are in NZ dollars. Early bird fee of NZ$2695 (non-refundable deposit included) to be received in full by 1 October 2024 or standard fee of NZ$3195.
